Club History

Founded...

Widbrook United was founded in 1982 and was based in the Widley and Purbrook area of Waterlooville, Hampshire.

Widbrook United’s teams compete in several Hampshire-based leagues, including the Portsmouth Youth Football League, Mid Solent Youth League, Portsmouth Saturday League, Winchester and District Girls League, and the Hampshire County Women’s League.

The club is proud to have earned the FA Charter Standard accreditation at both Youth and Senior levels, demonstrating its commitment to maintaining the highest standards in coaching, player development, and welfare. This includes thorough safeguarding measures such as CRB checks and training for all managers and coaches.

The club's name reflects its local roots, combining "Wid" from Widley and "brook" from Purbrook. Its badge symbolically represents the meaning behind these village names—Widley meaning "a willow wood" and Purbrook meaning "brook of the water sprite." The design features a stylized willow tree over a stream, though the sprite itself is left to the imagination.

All of Widbrook United’s matches are played at Barton’s Green, Havant, which boasts some of the best pitches in the area.

From its humble beginnings with a single team, the club has grown significantly and now trains and competes across all age groups, starting from under-6s. Since its inception, the club has proudly worn its distinctive red and black colours.
